In February 2019,  Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer.  After the initial shock from the diagnosis, Dezy made a choice to fight, live, and appreciate life everyday.  He inspired others to realize we are all fortunate that we "get" to do things every day - no matter how large or small.  In doing so, he left a legacy through the creation of the DezyStrong Foundation, whose mission it is to help those affected by cancer and to carry on spreading the message of the values Dezy inspired others to have.  

Dezy also had big dreams.  His vision for the Dezy Classic was to be able to host it at Bethpage State Park - which is why we are excited to announce his vision has been realized!  The 2nd Annual Dezy Classic  presented by JBL Home Improvements will be held at Bethpage on Monday August 9, 2021. 

We are also excited to announce this year's special honoree, Connetquot Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach, Justin Hertz.

RECEPTION HONOREE

Justin Hertz is an accomplished athlete and coach - and a true DezyStrong WARRIOR.  During his time at the helm of the Connetquot Girls Varsity Volleyball team, he has directed them to multiple undefeated seasons as well as New York State Championships.  His leadership has positively influenced the lives of the hundreds of girls that have gone through his program.  

In May of 2020, during the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Justin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and a tumor on his brain.  His battle has been extremely challenging, spending more than two months at Sloan in New York City with very limited visitation from his family due to a compromised immune system and a global pandemic.   While he has since recovered and is now home and doing well,  Justin's story personifies what it means to be DezyStrong.
